Frequently Asked Questions
-
How does the fee discount work?
DO NOT pay your application fee if it does not display your fee discount. Email apro@ucr.edu if you do not see your $40 discount reflected in your fee balance. We cannot refund application fees once they've been paid.
One $40 discount will be given per student (not per application) for their application to participating programs. Unfortunately, if your program is not listed in the Academic Program Sessions above, you cannot receive a fee discount on your application to the non-participating program. To be eligible, you must attend at least one academic program session (featured sessions and campus resource sessions do not count toward the fee discount). You must attend the session, not merely register for it (we check).
To be marked as attended for your sessions, you must use the link found in your email confirmation to navigate to your Registration Summary page and access your sessions. If you somehow access the direct Zoom links to any sessions, do not use them. Use the Access Event button provided on your Registration Summary page (see image). Using the direct Zoom link will not mark you as attended and we will not be able to verify your attendance for the application discount.
Please use the a valid, current email address to register for the Open House. This should be the same email address you intend to use when applying to UCR. This will ensure that the fee discount is applied to your application. Also, please enter your correct date of birth as this is used to validate the fee discount and tie it to your application.
-
Why should I attend?
If you have ever considered getting a Master's or Ph.D. - you should attend! This event will feature live Q&A sessions with program staff where you can received personalized information, a walk-through of our graduate application process directly from our admissions team, faculty & current graduate student panels from a variety of different programs, interactive sessions with campus resource partners, and more!
Plus, it comes with a snazzy discount - $40 off your application fee! For more information about application fees, please click here.
-
How can I register for more sessions or edit my registration?
You will receive a unique email to the email address you provide on the registration form - make sure to SAVE THIS LINK. You will use it to not only access your sessions, but register for more sessions / cancel your registration for sessions you're no longer interested in.
-
Are sessions virtual or in-person?
All sessions are virtual, using the Zoom platform. Sessions can be accessed from the registration portal.
-
How do I access my sessions?
Immediately upon registration, you will be emailed a unique link to your personalized registration summary page. Please save this email. On your Registration Summary page, you will find buttons for each session that say "Access Event" (see image below). Use this to access each session.
Please use the a valid, current email address to register for the Open House. This should be the same email address you intend to use when applying to UCR. This will ensure that the fee discount is applied to your application. Also, please enter your correct date of birth as this is used to validate the fee discount and tie it to your application.
For more information, please watch the video at the top of this page!
-
Do I need to be a UCR student to attend?
No! This is available to any student interested in graduate school, no matter your background, age, or current level of education!
-
Is there a fee to attend?
Nope! All sessions are entirely free of charge.
-
Will the sessions be recorded?
Please do not count on the sessions being recorded. While some of them might be, it is up to the programs hosting the sessions whether or not they would like to record. For this reason, we highly encourage live attendance. If available, recordings will be sent out to those who register following the event.
-
What’s the difference between this open house and other UCR-related open houses?
This is the only Open House event coming directly from Graduate Division. Other programs may host their own Open House events for their specific programs/degrees, and we encourage you to visit the program websites and attend those as well! However, this Graduate Division Open House offers a wide array of program sessions, presentations from campus resource centers, and information about the application process directly from our Admissions Office.
-
Can I receive more than one fee discount?
Unfortunately, this event only qualifies you for one fee discount of $40. However, students who meet certain criteria can apply for further discounts or fee waivers. Please visit https://graduate.ucr.edu/fee-waivers for more information.
Also, your program of interest may offer unique fee discounts and/or waivers! Please visit your program of interest's website or ask a staff member for more details. All program websites and staff contact information is available in the buttons above this FAQ section.
-
Are international students eligible for the fee discount?
Yes! As long as you meet the eligibility requirements listed above.
-
Where can I learn more about preparing for graduate school?
The Office of Academic Preparation, Recruitment, & Outreach here in UC Riverside's Graduate Division! On our website, you can find resources for you to prepare for graduate school, information about our paid summer internships for undergraduates, and a contact us page where you can make one-on-one appointments for advice on preparing for and choosing a graduate program!
